Baby Sign Language Classes In Sydney Inner West NSW

Hi, my name is Catherine Carrier and I run Baby Hands classes in Sydney’s Inner West.

I discovered baby sign language when I was pregnant with my son and started doing research on how to communicate with pre-verbal babies. Throughout the pregnancy I learned more and more about Auslan and the benefits of signing with babies.

As soon as my son was born, I booked into a signing class with Australian Baby Hands and started to learn these techniques to communicate with my baby.

I started signing with my son when he was three months old. It was so easy to incorporate into our busy lives and by five months he understood several signs- such as eat, more, sleep – and soon after was able to sign them back to me.

Now, at 13 months, he regularly signs basic words but his favourite sign in the world at the moment is “Bath”. Our son loves bath time and he squeals with delight every night when we sign that it’s “Bath Time”!

My background is in communications and after the birth of my son I was looking for a job where I could combined my love of communicating and love of raising my baby- so baby signing was a natural choice for me.

I run regular classes in the beautiful historical Woodstock Community Centre in Burwood and am also available for private classes, mother’s groups, play groups or early childhood centres.

The classes are a nurturing, learning environment where you and your child learn how to sign every day words – whilst signing songs and reading books to help you remember them.

We play lots of games to help you incorporate the signs in to your everyday life with your baby. Music and listening games also play a big role in every class.

I look forward to introducing you and your baby to the wonderful world of baby signing.

Class Details:

Classes are kept small to encourage learning so please book early to secure your spot. We encourage both parents to attend with their child when possible.

Introduction to Baby Sign Language:

A one hour class and a great intro class to learn what this is all about.
Recommended for all parents and children who are interesting in learning Baby Sign Language.

Beginners Course:

A six week course where parents and children learn baby sign language through music, stories and games.
Each week has a different theme as we grow our baby sign language vocabulary.
Keep an eye out for Sammy the Signing Bear as he pops in each week to teach and entertain us!

Intermediate Course:

Once you complete your beginners course, we move onto more themes, songs, music, stories and games.
This six week course is designed to reinforce your existing signing vocabulary and add more words as your baby grows.
Sammy the Signing Bear joins us each week to help us learn and of course- entertain us!

Advanced Course:

By this stage you and your baby will have learned lots of signs!
This six week course is to refresh your memory of learned signs and introduce some more to give you a complete library of signs to use with your baby as they grow.
Sammy the Signing Bear pops in each week to test us on our signing skills- and of course, play some games with us!
