This month we look at reading with your baby. Reading books is one of the great ways to stimulate your babies development. By incorporating Auslan into books and stories you can get you child even more involved and offer a great bonding experience.

"My father-in-law was fluent in sign language and taught my husband when he was a kid. When our son (Jamie) was 8 months old my husband taught him the signs for food and bottle. Jamie took to these really quickly and soon had a whole range of signs that he/we made up to talk about things. We always intended to find out the correct signs for things and use them but never got organised. When I saw your BABYHands DVD advertised thru Huggies I was determined to get it right for our daughter (now 8 months).

I play the DVD at night to Jamie while I'm settling his sister to sleep and he doesn't move from the lounge. He watches so intently (now 24 months) and has started saying the words out loud.

Up until now his spoken language had been slow coming but to our amazement, he all of a sudden took off. Now he signs and speaks and takes great delight in showing his little sister what to do.
He's even started to try stringing a few signs and words together (more please mummy) which has helped with his speech too. Today for the first time Natasha started to hand babble, I was surprised because she didn't seem to be taking any notice.

While our teachers are based in a particular territory, if you live in a neighbouring area and have a group of friends/mothers who are interested in attending a class, our teachers can come to you.
