| Thanks
very much to Lisa Gizariotis for sending in her baby sign
story regarding her son Alec and baby daughter Zoe.
"Baby Hands changed my life: Honestly using sign
language to start early communication channels with my son
(now almost 4years) allowed us to skip the frustration/tantrum/screaming
and grunting that I witnessed other mums going through.
My son’s language development is very progressed. He
has been talking (by this I mean understood by adults other
than family) since he was 2.
I started using sign language with my 2nd child at
about 6 months. She knows the signs to eat, milk, drink,
water, sleep, bath, finish, good, change (as in nappy),
book, bread, cheese.
She is now 13 months, and frequently uses 6 signs (change,
bath, eat, milk, water, bread)

Zoe Signs Milk
She is also verbalising a lot now - star, car (pronounced
AHHH), ta (thankyou and give to me). Meow (for our cat),
AL –eh (for her older brother alec), mum, dada, nanna, yaya
(greek for nanna), baby, bubba
The benefits of her using sign and spoken language
are obvious and it’s a lot of fun for all of us. I am trying
to document Zoe’s progress as I am currently studying Primary
teaching, and I find language development really interesting."
