Trouble Reading? - View This Newsletter Online

The last day of autumn today but it feels like winter has already arrived as I write this to you all rugged up and hearing the rain beating against the window pane. I hope all you mums out there had a fabulous Mothers Day this month and got spoilt rotten.

Last month I mentioned our next expo which was coming up in Perth. Unfortunately the Baby & Toddler Show have decided to cancel this years show but it is all locked in for next year.

Monthly Article Section:

This month we look at something very personal to me, Autism & Baby Sign Language. This article is my story of my younger brother and how I wish I had known about baby sign when he was born because it could have changed his life. I hope this helps some of you out there.

Your Stories:

What a great story from Jana this month which just shows that persistence is key :-)

"Hi Jackie, I just wanted to say thank you for all the products you offer for Baby Sign Language, it is so wonderful to understand my 18 month old twin boys Xavier & Simon most of the time with their signs. I stated signing about 6-9 months but not very often, as I wasn't seeing many results which was a bit frustrating and around 12 months they were finally picking some of the signs up, in particular milk. But it was the bird sign that really got them excited, so then I introduced a few more animals.

My family really didn't think it would work or was worth doing in the beginning but they are all converted now and think it is wonderful. Recently we went for a walk near lots of boats and it was so cute to see them throwing their arms forward signing boat.

It is also wonderful how much their vocab has extended due to the signs, as they can only say 4-5 words clearly, but can sign over 20. Xavier will tend to try and say words more than sign, for example ball he said before signing but will now sign and say at the same time, whereas Simon will sign ball more than say ball.

I just wish we could go to some of the signing classes, however it is not possible living in country Victoria. But I recommend signing to anyone I speak to that sees the boys signing or asks about it. It is so much fun and amazing to see them understand so much."

Thank You Again
